Trailer: Man Ooman (Dance Styles Based Dance Music Of Jamaica Documentary)

"Manooman" is another amazing documentary from our Danish homie Andreas Johnsen, that will be Germany debuting in Berlin at the Radical Riddims festival on June 11th.
The film focuses on the observation and discussion of the grotesquely sexualised dance styles of the digital, Reggae based dance music of Jamaica. “Manooman” reveals surprising insights.

Jamaica has more churches, more murders and more parties per capita than any other place on earth. The young dancers Fresh and Kamar know what it's all about when they guide us around the notorious street parties, where the boys fight for the girls, who in turn fight to be chosen as the year's Dancehall Queen. Ever fresh, ever clean!

Dancehall is the music of the poor working class, and even if it's all about looking flashy and being all sexed up in front of the video camera, the tension is bubbling up from under the surface - not least in the raw and ultra-sexual dance, which can easily take place up in trees and on top of lampposts, while living up to the deeply-rooted homophobia that accompanies it.
