Officially The Best Cities In Jamaica!

Jamaican cities have their own special sites to see, but there are many exciting and interesting places between cities as well.
http://weedbaby13-dwayne.blogspot.com/
has featured the best cities in Jamaica, officially.

Montego Bay
Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and is the gateway to tourist activity on the north coast. The city sits in a bay with mountains rising in the background. It is a hub of shopping and dining, and the beaches are lined with all-inclusive resorts. In Montego Bay, be sure to check out the following highlights:
  • Rose Hall Great House - Visit the legendary home of the infamous Annie Palmer. The "White Witch" of Jamaica. She is reported to have killed several unlucky husbands and brutalized her slaves until she herself was murdered. People swear they see her suffering ghost roaming the property. Beautifully restored and worth the visit.

  • Greenwood Great House - Considered one of the finest and best restored of the former plantation homes. The house belonged to the Barrett family of which Elizabeth Barrett Browning is a descendent. The house is filled with antiques, paintings, rare books, and furniture from the 1800s.
Heading east from Montego Bay, take some time to visit these recommended stops:
  • Falmouth: 18th century port town, this is worth a quick walking tour to see the historical buildings. The Good Hope Great House is located nearby.

  • Discovery Bay: Site of Columbus' landing in 1494, this is where you will find Columbus Park which is an open-air museum containing a wide range of historical artifacts and information on the area.

  • Runaway Bay: Is now a growing tourist area. This is the spot that the Spanish "ran away" to Cuba when the British invaded the island.

Ochi Rios
This is the cruise capital of Jamaica. The bay is sheltered by lush garden-like mountains and protected by reefs. Ocho Rios hums with markets, shops, restaurants, and discos. Watersports and natural wonders are the attraction here.
  • Dunns River Falls:This 600-foot waterfall drops down to the beach. One of the most photographed and visited waterfalls in the world. Can be extremely crowded as people climb up through a series of "staircase" waterfalls.
Heading east from Ocho Rios, the drive from Ocho Rios to Port Antonio has some of the most spectacular scenery the north coast has to offer. Pass through small port towns such as Orcabessa, whose 19th century buildings are restored to their original look and feel. There are several "kodak moments" with breathtaking views of the coastline, bays and hills. The roads are narrow and windy, so be careful when driving on your own through this area.

Port Antonio
Once the river port destination for the banana boats, this village was a favorite of movie stars and the cradle of modern Jamaican tourism. The twin bays look like a hollywood movie set and were the birthplace of bamboo rafting. Port Antonio is the mecca of the island's deep-sea fishing and a gateway to the nearby John Crow and Blue Mountain ranges. Port Antonio features the following worthwhile sightseeing spots:
  • Erroll Flynn: The story goes that he pulled his yacht into Kingston for repairs. While waiting, he drove a rented motorbike 62 miles over the mountains and into Port Antonio. The movie star instantly fell in love with the place and purchased Navy Island and became completely absorbed into the local community. He is still talked about today and his estate still owns the nearby Comfort Island Castle Plantation.

  • Goldeneye: The beachfront estate of Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond novels.

  • Somerset Falls: The rainforest feeds the river that is forced down a gorge making this an awesome waterfall to see and play in. You can swim in the rock pools as you enjoy snacks sold at the concession stand.

Kingston
Many tourists bypass the largest English-speaking city in the Caribbean due to the bad publicity and crime associated with it. It is the cradle of Jamaican culture, however and contains many historical sites and botanical gardens. The first English capital city -- Port Royal -- was built just across from Kingston in the 1600s and was later destroyed by an earthquake and tidal wave. Spanish Town, just outside of Kingston was the site of the Spanish settlement before the English ran them off.
Kingston is also the birthplace of reggae and a visit to the Bob Marley Museum is the perfect spot to get your fill of this politically-inspired music. When visiting Jamaica make sure to make a stop in Kingston.

Mandeville
Located at 2,000 feet in elevation, the city has one of the best climates on the island. The English built the city to escape the "hot tropics" of the coastline. It is a charming town and is a great homebase for birdwatching, caving, or to branch out and explore the mountainous regions or the south coast.

Negril
The "newest" resort destination on the west coast was discovered in the 1700s by rowdy pirates. The 1960s and 1970s saw the sleepy little town invaded by hippies from North America. Today, people are being drawn in even greater numbers to its famed seven-mile-long sandy beach and its spectacular sunsets. Fun and sun are the main attractions here, and there are few other attractions. The Negril Lighthouse, built in 1894, offers a panoramic view of the area after a climb of 100 stairs.
As you head back to Montego Bay to catch your return flight, you will pass through the remains of several Great Houses and plantation estates.

Trailer: Man Ooman (Dance Styles Based Dance Music Of Jamaica Documentary)

"Manooman" is another amazing documentary from our Danish homie Andreas Johnsen, that will be Germany debuting in Berlin at the Radical Riddims festival on June 11th.
The film focuses on the observation and discussion of the grotesquely sexualised dance styles of the digital, Reggae based dance music of Jamaica. “Manooman” reveals surprising insights.

Jamaica has more churches, more murders and more parties per capita than any other place on earth. There are parties all over the island seven days a week, and the dance is aggressive and extremely sexually explicit. The young dancers Fresh and Kamar know what it's all about when they guide us around the notorious street parties, where the boys fight for the girls, who in turn fight to be chosen as the year's Dancehall Queen. Ever fresh, ever clean!

Dancehall is the music of the poor working class, and even if it's all about looking flashy and being all sexed up in front of the video camera, the tension is bubbling up from under the surface - not least in the raw and ultra-sexual dance, which can easily take place up in trees and on top of lampposts, while living up to the deeply-rooted homophobia that accompanies it.

Vybz Kartel Rants In Statement About Jah Vinci & Corey Todd Leaving The Portmore Empire Camp

Many of you have heard or seen the recent accusations made by my former associates in the past few weeks. I don’t know why all of these individuals, think the most appropriate action to take after a philosophical difference occurs is to go to the press and attack me.

I can only say that I am reminded of Bob Marley’s admonishments when he said man is so unjust, you don’t know who to trust…your best friend can turn out to be your worst enemy…I shall say no more, other than who the cap fit, mek them wear it. I am issuing this statement because I think these accusations are due to a breach of confidentiality as certain individuals got wind of my upcoming projects and initiatives and they know they can’t stop me without resorting to underhanded tactics.

See Jamaica, Vybz Kartel has been carrying a secret for a very long time and I think it is time that I reveal it before persons try to derail the projects that I have put together by continuing to make false reports about me in their attempt to have me muzzled.two years ago, I had an epiphany whilst on stage. I saw thousands of people screaming for Kartel, jumping up and down, listening to ever word that I uttered on stage, it was like the people were eating out of the palm of my hands. At that moment, something strange came over me, as I heard the people screaming for more, I suddenly realized that my calling was to be more than a Deejay.

I realized that the people were not eating out my hands but they wanted to hear Kartel speak because finally somebody was telling their story in a profound no holds barred manner. Whether I was addressing sexuality, poverty, police brutality, injustice, the trials and tribulations of the ghetto I was finally giving ghetto people a voice – a big voice like society never heard before.

I know I am not the first that has ever attempted to do this. Because when I researched I saw that Marcus, Sam Sharpe, Paul Bogle all spoke directly to the powers that be on behalf of the people but were ostracized and in some cases killed. Later, Marley, Tosh, Jacob Miller did the same thing and all died young under unique somewhat mysterious circumstances. I have seen what they have done to ancient Rastamen, People’s Telecom, the Marcus Garvey Political Party and other entities that attacked Babylon head on.

I did not want the same fate to reach me at the time, I did not want them to muzzle me also, so I took a decision that I felt I had to, I had to trick Babylon. I realized if I kept doing outrageous and outlandish stuff, they would write me off as just an attention seeking artiste and not realize that since July 26, 2009 behind closed doors I have been writing my book and setting up my GEL (Gaza Education and Literacy) program. So they put the spotlight on me, not knowing that they were actually putting the spotlight on themselves because Vybz Kartel is not about braces, bleaching and hairstyles but I am about elevating the cause of Ghetto people.

Please understand Jamaica sometimes you have to trick Babylon with confusion. If I revealed my intentions two years ago, do you think the people that control the media would report everything I do? Babylon, you have been tricked. For 500 years, the system has been using reverse psychology to trick my people,I have now used reverse psychology to trick them Let’s see societal hypocrisy for what it is. Now that my book is going to be released, now that most of my songs will have a more cultural overtone as i have already taken the decision to stop deejaying gun lyrics, now that I am going to be providing educational opportunities for young people, will you be giving me the same attention?

In so far as business is concerned, I don’t agree that rum and a night club is an Empire. The Portmore Global Empire has been in the works for some time with proper infrastructure currently being put in place. I had anticipated certain moves and I have been in consultation with Attorneys in Pembroke Pines, Florida about proper branding, contracts, representation and protecting my legal rights globally. The team I have been working with are all degreed in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Mass Communications and have the expertise that I will need – it is funny when I hear “nobody can tell Kartel anything” when I have trained consultants who have aided me in planning my future projects. I have not finalized any decisions as yet but I have invested considerable resources to take my business endeavours to another level, so again, like Bob Marley said, half the story has never been told.

Now I know a lot of my fans are probably surprised but understand this,I feel called by a power greater than me. Black people have been suffering too long, we have been in poverty too long, we have been brutalized too long and Vybz Kartel is now advising the world that I will use the spotlight that you have put on me to highlight their cause. I am not naïve and I know based on recent interviews on TV that my life and freedom is more in danger than ever before because I have no intention of easing up on the system or their agents. However, I am at peace with this decision. The Gaza ladies, you are still my babies, so don’t worry, the black race must procreate so I will giving you more “Dumpa Truck” to drive in, you can still “Get Wild” and you will still ride your “10 speed bicycle” in “Slow Motion.” I will never stop deejaying for you. The “thugs,” you all built Kartel, so I will never alienate you but you may be getting some new messages from me.

It is unfortunate that I have been forced to prematurely make this statement as my book was slated to be launched on July 23, 2012 – His Imperial Majesty’s Earthstrong, my GEL program was for the September 2011-2012 academic year but the forces against me are rising on TV and in the newspaper so after consultation with the few trusted advisers I have left, I decided to make this release so that if they take my life or my freedom, the projects will continue. Keep in mind that the greatest black man that ever lived, Marcus Garvey, was betrayed by trusted individuals and endured continuous character assassination, so I guess I am in good company. We nah stop say Gaza4Life, we just upgrading the message.

Jah Vinci - In My Life [Notnice/Corey Todd Records]

In the wake of news that he has left the Portmore Empire, Jahvinci has released a single called ‘In My Life’ which speaks to the continued destitution of his family in spite of his fame as a recording artiste and the challenges of surviving as a member of the Portmore Empire. While it is not an out-and-out diss song, it does criticise the inner workings of a musical outfit that cannot seem to escape the persistent whiff of scandal, rumours of beatings and thuggery and trigger-pulling.

Dancehall Artist Mavado forms own label - Set to release new single soon

Dancehall artiste Mavado is taking his career to a new level with his own label, Mansion Records.
Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, the artiste, whose real name is David Brooks, said he will be releasing his first song, Delilah, on the label next week.
He added that he started the label to assist himself and other artistes. "I just start this record label because I have a lot of young artistes around me and I think I can do so much for them," Mavado said.
some international acts
In addition to artistes from the Gully Squad, Mavado said he would also be doing work with others like Assassin, Munga and members of the Alliance. He said there was also the possibility that he would be working with some international acts on the label.
"Right now, I have a lot of international connections. It's a lot of them, so I am not sure who will be first," he said. But this is also Mavado's first time trying his hands at producing.
"I will be producing, and we have more things like promoting. It's a great feeling. It's a great honour. It's not about the money, we still haffi inna it (music) and try build it," Mavado said.
few remixes
His manager Julian Jones-Griffiths added that Delilah was produced by Mavado and co-produced by Logwood Productions. In addition, he said there were two mixes of the song, one from Stephen McGregor and the other from Jeremy Harding. Both mixes will be released exclusively on iTunes on May 24. He said a few remixes would also be done, with the first one coming from international producer Diplo.
"It's like two interpretations of the same song. We just wanted to do something different. It's nothing unusual internationally, it is just something we really don't do here," he said.
Meanwhile, Mavado says he will also be doing the music video for Delilah that will be shot by Better Mus' Come director Storm Saulter in another couple weeks. In addition, he says he will be releasing another song called Do Road and a single with members of the Gully Squad.
