While some may recognize him for his cameo as the scary villain in Drake’s “Find Your Love” video, reggae superstar Mavado has arrived in United States to make a more indelible mark on the music scene. After getting his visa reinstated earlier this year following a 2010 revocation the most recent signee to DJ Khaled’s We The Best Music Group tells BET.com that his musical matrimony with the bombastic deejay was inevitable.
“I’ve known [DJ] Khaled for years, from like the 90’s” says the dancehall artist. “Khaled use to come to Jamaica for Fully Loaded and we would always chill out way before he started his takeover.”
Currently enjoying the success of his latest reggae smash, “Delilah” and more recently “Emergency” featuring Ace Hood, the Gully God says a collaboration can be expected with Drake in the near future.
“We’re suppose to go in the studio to do this remix for this song," Mavado explains. "I know right now he’s like busy doing his thing and I’m just the same since I’ve been here. I think its just a matter of time. I don’t think it will be later than sooner."
While the Jamaican singer does admit that no immediate album is in the works he says fans can look forward to plenty more material and hip hop collaborations as well as a potential record with Lil Wayne.
“Whatever time Khaled say its time for the album then we’ll just go in the studio but for now were putting out all these hot singles," says the reggae artist.
As for working with Weezy, Mavado says “from a couple years ago I’ve always wanted to do a mad record with [Lil] Wayne. That kid is crazy, trust me he’s out of this world. It’s gon’ happen in due time. "We gon’ put some steroids to this game and turn it up… loud.”
As part of his introduction to stateside audiences Mavado will embark on the Welcome to the Gully tour, which kicks off in Rochester, NY on October 15.
It's now official that the fragile peace treaty that existed betweenBounty Killer and Beenie Man has been shattered. This was confirmed in a recent interview with Beenie Man who stated, "Killa after we sign peace yuh go cross it, now the war start again".
Beenie's comments comes on the heels of a recent song by Bounty Killer titled 'Who Tell Him Dweet', that sees the Alliance leader making some disparaging remarks about the dancehall doctor and his tumultuous relationship with estranged wife D'Angel.
Beenie Man intimated that when he heard the song he could not sleep and it was only a matter of time as a counteraction was imminent. Recorded on the 'War Monger Riddim' the track titled 'Da Idiot Song Deh' starts by disrespecting Tony Matterhorn with the entry lines, 'dutty Mattherhorn ah me sing Dancehall Queen, star di movie Dancehall Queen and breed di Dancehall Queen mi dun wid yuh", before turning his attention to Bounty Killer styling him as 'General gyal clown' among a slew of other derogatory characterizations.
Will Bounty respond? is the question on everyone's lips.
Meanwhile it appears that a lyrically showdown could be shaping up between these two as Sting draws closer.
